Therefore, in the repertoire, alongside works by composers of the younger generation, we find a large dose of songs Carlo Gesualdo, Luca Marenzio, Heinrich Schütz, and other early music artists.

NEXT FESTIVAL

DEAR CHORAL FRIENDS!!!

Dear Sirs/Madams,
8th International Choir Festival MUNDUS CANTAT SOPOT 2012 will be held May 16-21 2012.
We invite you to take part in the eight edition of the MUNDUS CANTAT FESTIVAL, which invites singers from all over the world to Sopot..
From 16 till 21 of May please come and check your skills in one (or all!) of our musical categories !
This colorful and joyful event has already gained a large group of friends and well wishers. Till this year we have hosted more than 3 thousand participants from 27 countries, among them: Columbia, Philippines, Singapore, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
We invite adult, children and youth choirs to sing sacral, secular, gospel, jazz and spirituals music. Auditions and additional concerts take place in the beautiful Sopot churches, whereas the Final Concert in a unique one-hundred-year-old amphitheatre – the Forest Opera in Sopot.
Every year the festival is inaugurated by a colorful parade of choir members wearing picturesque clothes in Monte Cassino Street and the opening ceremony on the Sopot Pier. Competition auditions are held in Sopot churches and the final concert takes place in the Forest Opera. There the jury’s verdict is announced.
During the last year edition the participants performed in Gdynia, Gdańsk, Kwidzyn, Malbork, Pierwoszyno, Nowy Dwór Gdański, etc. This edition the choirs will have the same possibilities. Our goal is to widen the range of the festival for the whole Pomeranian Province and share the event with the inhabitants of our region who don’t have the same access to cultural offer as the inhabitants of Tricity. Mundus Cantat Sopot offers an excellent opportunity to compare world’s vocal traditions and to get to know songs from different regions, which are often exotic for us.
Each year the President of Sopot, the Pomeranian Provincial Governor, the Marshal of the Pomeranian Province and the Minister of Culture and National Heritage take the project under their wing.
All amateur choirs can take part in the festival. They can compete in three categories: “sacral music”, “secular music” and “spirituals, gospel, jazz”. You can find more information at: www.munduscantat.sopot.pl .
We warmly invite you to read more about the conditions of participation and to send your application. The awards wait for you ;). Welcome!
